Roshan Gharana Program: A Step Towards Sustainable Energy in Punjab
The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has launched the “Roshan Gharana Program” with the aim of alleviating the financial burden of electricity bills on low-income households. This initiative also aims to ease the load on power plants.
The Roshan Gharana Program is designed to provide 50,000 1-kilowatt solar systems to households that consume 100 units of electricity per month or less. The solar systems include solar panels, inverters, batteries, and other essential components. By providing these systems, the program intends to lessen the financial strain on users due to high costs of solar panels, inverters, and batteries (AGS and Osaka).
During her recent meeting on the Roshan Gharana scheme, Maryam Nawaz emphasized the need for swift action and finalization of the project. The initiative will employ advanced technologies, and users can utilize a solar calculator to estimate their monthly electricity usage.
The Roshan Gharana Solar Program is divided into phases to monitor its effectiveness and make necessary improvements.
In the initial phase, the solar systems will be allocated to households with an average monthly consumption of 100 units. Distribution will be managed through a balloting process, supported by a budget of 12.6 billion rupees.
The second phase will extend the benefits to consumers with electricity usage ranging from 100 to 300 units per month. Details and budget for this phase are yet to be finalized and will depend on the success of Phase 1.
Registration for the Roshan Gharana Solar Scheme is set to begin in May. Interested candidates can apply online by providing basic information and required documents. The registration process is designed to be straightforward, with efforts being made to ensure a transparent balloting process.
Applicants are required to make a 25% down payment for the solar system, while the remaining costs will be covered by the government. To qualify, applicants must be residents of Punjab with a valid ID card and should consume an average of 100 units or less per month.
To ensure the benefits reach the intended recipients and to avoid any confusion, the government has established the following eligibility criteria:
How much is the down payment for the solar system?
Candidates are required to make a 25% down payment to receive the solar system.
Who will be selected for the solar system scheme?
The Roshan Gharana Program aims to promote efficient energy use and support low-income households. The first phase will benefit the most needy, with the possibility of extending benefits to others in the second phase. The use of solar energy will also contribute to reducing pollution.
This initiative reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to fostering sustainable living and supporting its residents through innovative energy solutions.
